Obituary of Lorne Ireland

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorne Ireland, lifelong resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at the age of 80 years.

Lorne was born on March 10, 1942, in Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, the oldest son of Glenn and Belva Ireland.  He grew up on the farm in Coleman Creek with his 4 siblings, Dale, Terry, Lois, and Marg.

He married Gail Tucker in November 1960, shortly after high school.  They welcomed their first born, Terrance Dean in 1961 and their daughter, Laurel Jean in 1963

Lorne was mechanically inclined from a very young age, assembling a washing machine engine for his bicycle to make the journey to school easier.  He went on to study and became a licensed mechanic at age 21.  He successfully owned and operated several Esso Service stations over the years including 5 years in Watson Lake.  Lorne was set to retire at 40, but instead, he purchased Dawson Creek Industries where he continued to create, weld, and fabricate.

Lorne had a sense of adventure and a love for travel.  He went on many tropical vacations, cruises and was fortunate enough to see 3 of the 7 wonders of the world.  He kept busy developing and improving his awesome property in Arras.  Lorne built his dream shop where he always had a project on the go; welding, inventing and wine making.  At age 70, he purchased a wood lathe, and a new hobby was born.  There was nothing that man couldn’t do.

There were many family get togethers out on Road 235.  The secret quad trails through the bush, campfires and time spent at his special cabin.  Lorne was extremely proud of his family.  His kids, his granddaughters, Jodanna, Kristina and Sydney and of course Gail, his wife of 62 years.  What brought a twinkle/tear to his eye was his special little people (his great grandkids).

Lorne developed mobility issues in his last years and fought long and hard to find the mysterious cause.  He never complained about his maladies and was a gentleman to the very end telling us “He was fine”.

A Memorial Service for Lorne will be held at the Rolla Hall on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
